The chain crusher is a type of impact-based crushing equipment featuring wear-resistant high-manganese steel chain assemblies as its core crushing components. It utilizes a high-speed rotor to drive the chains, generating centrifugal impact forces that strike, knead, and shatter agglomerated raw materials to achieve size reduction.

Based on Huaqiang Heavy Industry's extensive experience in on-site commissioning of fertilizer equipment, the machine's standout feature is its flexible impact structure. Unlike hammer mills that use rigid hammers, the chains can flex slightly upon striking large, hard objects, thereby absorbing the impact. This significantly reduces the risk of malfunctions such as machine jams, main shaft breakage, and casing cracks, making the equipment ideally suited for processing materials——such as organic and compound fertilizers——that are prone to agglomeration and have inconsistent moisture content.

Key Application Scenarios for Chain Crushers

Production of Chemical and Compound Fertilizers

Chain crushers are widely used to crush fertilizer materials such as granular compound fertilizers, ordinary superphosphate (SSP), triple superphosphate (TSP), phosphate fertilizers, and nitrophosphate fertilizers. In compound fertilizer production lines, they can break down large fertilizer lumps (with an average diameter exceeding 4 mm) into granules with an average diameter of 1-4 mm.

Organic Fertilizer Production

Chain crushers play a vital role across several stages of organic fertilizer production. During the raw material pretreatment phase, coarse fibrous materials-such as crop stalks and tree branches——undergo crushing to significantly increase their surface area; this facilitates uniform mixing with nitrogen-rich materials like livestock manure and can shorten the fermentation cycle by more than 20%. In the post-fermentation processing stage, the decomposed material is crushed into a loose, fine texture, providing high-quality feedstock for subsequent mixing, granulation, and screening processes.

Other Industries

Chain crushers are also suitable for crushing medium-hardness lump materials in industries such as chemicals, construction materials, and mining.

What are the structural components of a chain crusher?

A complete chain crusher consists of the following main components, viewed from the outside in:

Casing and Base: The casing is typically fabricated from welded high-quality carbon steel or alloy steel, providing sufficient compressive strength and wear resistance. The base is mounted on a concrete foundation and secured with anchor bolts.

Rotor System: The core component of the machine. The main shaft is mounted on the casing via bearing housings; chain mounts are attached to the shaft, and link chains are installed onto these mounts. Vertical models feature a single vertical rotor shaft, while horizontal models utilize two parallel horizontal shafts.

Link Chains and Chain Heads: The crushing components that come into direct contact with the material. One end of the link chain connects to the rotor, while the other connects to the chain head. The chain heads are made of wear-resistant steel and repeatedly impact the material during high-speed rotation. The number and length of the chains directly influence the output particle size.

Inlet and Outlet: Optimized using fluid dynamics principles, these ensure that material is evenly distributed across the rotor's working surface upon entry, preventing localized overloading.

Access Door: A hinged or quick-opening access door on the casing allows operators to replace chains and clean the crushing chamber without extensive disassembly.

How do you choose a chain crusher?

When purchasing equipment, price shouldn't be the only factor; the following aspects deserve careful consideration.

First, consider material characteristics: This is the initial and most critical step in model selection. Factors such as material type, hardness, moisture content, and fiber content directly determine the appropriate model. A chain crusher is a reliable choice for processing high-moisture organic materials (20%-45% moisture content). However, if processing dry straw-like materials where a fine crushing size (≤2mm) is required, other models might be more suitable.

Next, consider capacity requirements: Model specifications correspond directly to processing volume; choosing a model that is too large wastes energy, while one that is too small leads to frequent clogging. For small-scale production, a model with an hourly output of 1-2 tons suffices, whereas medium-to-large production lines require high-power equipment. Taking the LP series as an example, models are available ranging from 1-3 t/h to 2-8 t/h.

Do not overlook equipment materials: Casings made of high-quality carbon steel or alloy steel offer superior compressive strength and wear resistance. The material of the chains and chain heads is of paramount importance——high-strength, wear-resistant cemented carbide is the industry standard.

Consider manufacturer qualifications and after-sales service: Reputable manufacturers typically provide services such as installation and commissioning, operational training, and regular inspections. Equipment installation requires a level concrete foundation and anchoring with foundation bolts; all of these steps require technical support from the manufacturer.
