What are the steps involved in the complete production process of organic fertilizer?

Organic fertilizer is a high-quality, eco-friendly fertilizer used to improve soil health and crop quality, widely applied in green agriculture. Many industry newcomers and growers are unfamiliar with the full production process of standardized organic fertilizer; in reality, the process is rigorous and interconnected, comprising five core stages: raw material pretreatment, high-temperature fermentation, crushing and screening, granulation and drying, and cooling and packaging. This entire process ensures the harmless treatment and resource recovery of waste materials.

The first stage is raw material pretreatment, a prerequisite for ensuring fertilizer quality. Organic fertilizers are primarily made from agricultural and forestry waste, such as livestock and poultry manure, crop straw, sawdust, and oilseed cakes. Before production begins, impurities like stones and plastic debris must be removed. Moisture levels are then adjusted through air-drying or mechanical dewatering. Additionally, the carbon-to-nitrogen (C/N) ratio is scientifically balanced and the material's porosity improved to create an optimal environment for subsequent microbial fermentation, thereby controlling quality at the source.
The second core stage is aerobic high-temperature fermentation and composting. Pretreated materials are evenly mixed with fermentation starter cultures. An aerobic pile fermentation method is employed, using a windrow compost turner to regularly aerate the pile and promote rapid microbial proliferation. After approximately two weeks of high-temperature fermentation, pathogens, insect eggs, and weed seeds within the material are completely eliminated, achieving harmlessness. Simultaneously, organic matter fully decomposes and matures; odors are removed, and the material transforms into a stable, composted base.
The third stage involves crushing and screening. Fermented and composted materials tend to clump, so a half-wet material crusher is used to break them down into fine particles. Screening equipment then classifies the material, removing incompletely decomposed hard lumps and coarse particles. Substandard materials are reprocessed to ensure a fine, uniform texture and high purity, laying a solid foundation for subsequent shaping.
The fourth stage consists of granulation, drying, and cooling. Based on market demand, the powdered material is fed into a granulator to form uniform granules. Low-temperature drying equipment then precisely controls moisture content to prevent the finished product from clumping or molding. Finally, the dried fertilizer undergoes natural cooling to stabilize its properties and ensure a long shelf life.
The final stage is the packaging and warehousing process. Once cooled, the compliant granular fertilizer undergoes automated weighing, packaging, and labeling to complete the production of the finished product. After passing quality inspections, the finished products are categorized and placed into storage for subsequent sale. The entire organic fertilizer production process is straightforward, standardized, and environmentally friendly, serving as a key pillar for the circular development of modern agriculture.
