The Complete Production Process of Turning Cow Manure into Granular Organic Fertilizer

Cow manure is a common livestock waste product; if simply piled up, it can pollute the environment and breed pests. However, through professional processing, it can be precisely converted into granular organic fertilizer. Granular organic fertilizer offers stable nutrient content, ease of storage and transport, and convenient application, making it an excellent choice for agriculture. Transforming raw cow manure into finished granular fertilizer involves several meticulous steps; the entire process is eco-friendly, turning waste into a valuable resource.

The first step is raw material pretreatment. After collecting fresh cow manure, its moisture content and texture are adjusted. Fresh manure is typically high in moisture and heavy in texture—conditions unfavorable for fermentation—so workers mix in auxiliary materials such as straw, sawdust, or rice husks. These additives absorb excess moisture, loosen the material's structure, and supplement carbon to balance the carbon-to-nitrogen ratio. Impurities like stones and plastic are screened out to ensure material purity, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent fermentation stage.
The core stage is high-temperature aerobic fermentation. The prepared materials are arranged into neat fermentation piles, and specialized decomposing microbial strains are added to initiate the biological fermentation process. Driven by microbial activity, the internal temperature of the pile rises rapidly to between 60°C and 70°C. This sustained high heat thoroughly destroys insect eggs, pathogens, and weed seeds, eliminating potential pest and disease risks. During this period, a windrow compost turner is used to regularly turn and aerate the pile, replenishing oxygen and dissipating heat to prevent anaerobic conditions and mold growth. After 15 to 20 days of thorough fermentation, the cow manure is fully decomposed, and any unpleasant odors are completely eliminated.
The fully decomposed material serves as the primary feedstock for granular organic fertilizer and proceeds to the precision granulation stage. First, the decomposed material is thoroughly air-dried or oven-dried, with strict control over moisture content; excessive moisture causes clumping and prevents proper shaping, while insufficient moisture makes the granules prone to crumbling. Next, the material passes through a pulverizer and a screening system to remove hard lumps and impurities, ensuring a fine, uniform texture. Finally, the refined powder is fed into an organic fertilizer granulator to be processed into granules. The formed granules undergo secondary drying, polishing, and cooling to ensure a dense texture and a smooth, rounded appearance. A final screening process separates out uniformly sized, compliant granules; non-compliant material is recycled for reprocessing, while the finished product is dedusted and sealed for packaging.
The entire production process for granular organic fertilizer involves no chemical additives, relying instead on physical processing and biological fermentation to achieve transformation, resulting in zero pollution and zero residues. Compared to powdered organic fertilizer, granular cattle manure fertilizer generates less dust and releases nutrients slowly and steadily; it effectively loosens the soil, alleviates soil compaction, provides sustained crop nutrition, and reduces reliance on chemical fertilizers. This process not only resolves the pollution issues associated with cattle manure but also produces a practical, eco-friendly fertilizer, thereby supporting the circular development of green agriculture.
