Essential Core Equipment for Producing Granular Organic Fertilizer

Thanks to advantages such as ease of application, uniform nutrient distribution, and convenient storage and transport, granular organic fertilizer has become the preferred choice for green cultivation in modern agriculture. Its production involves a multi-stage process—including raw material treatment, fermentation and maturation, and granulation and molding—each step of which relies on specialized equipment support. Among these, the following categories of equipment are particularly indispensable, as they directly determine both product quality and production efficiency.

Raw material pretreatment equipment serves as the foundation of the production process, centered around the half-wet material crusher and the drum screener machine. The primary raw materials for granular organic fertilizer typically consist of organic waste such as livestock and poultry manure and crop straw. These materials must first pass through a semi-wet material crusher to break down long-fiber materials (like straw) into particles smaller than 5 millimeters, while simultaneously crushing any clumps of manure. This ensures uniform particle size in the raw materials, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent fermentation and granulation stages. The drum screener machine is responsible for sifting out and removing impurities—such as plastics and stones—from the raw materials. This process enhances material purity and prevents potential negative impacts on both the quality of the finished product and the operational safety of the equipment; it is, therefore, a prerequisite for ensuring the smooth progression of the entire production process.
Fermentation and maturation equipment is critical for nutrient transformation, with the compost turner serving as its core component. Organic raw materials must undergo aerobic fermentation to achieve harmless treatment—a process that eliminates pathogenic bacteria and insect eggs while breaking down large-molecule organic compounds into easily absorbable nutrients. The trough-type compost turner facilitates this process by periodically turning the raw materials to ensure adequate ventilation and oxygen supply. It maintains the fermentation temperature within an optimal range of 55–65°C, thereby shortening the fermentation cycle to 15–20 days and ensuring the raw materials are fully matured. Without a compost turner, the raw materials are prone to anaerobic fermentation—which generates foul odors—and fail to achieve complete maturation, rendering them incapable of meeting the established standards for organic fertilizer.
Granulation and molding equipment constitutes the core machinery for producing granular organic fertilizer; commonly used options include the disc granulator and the new type organic fertilizer granulator. The disc granulator, distinguished by its low cost and simple operation, is well-suited for small-to-medium-scale production; it utilizes the centrifugal force generated by rotation to cause raw materials to roll and agglomerate into granules, offering flexible control over granule size. The new type organic fertilizer granulator, conversely, is designed for large-scale production, producing granules with superior uniformity and high structural strength to meet the demands of mass production. Both types of equipment are indispensable and critical for transforming matured raw materials into their final granular form.
Post-processing and packaging equipment serve as the critical safeguard for products prior to shipment; this category includes dryers, coolers, and automated weighing and packaging machines. Dryers reduce the moisture content of the granules to below 15%, thereby preventing clumping during storage; coolers rapidly lower the temperature of the high-heat granules to ambient levels, preventing nutrient volatilization; and automated weighing and packaging machines ensure precise measurement and standardized packaging, thereby enhancing the overall standardization of the product.
These interconnected pieces of equipment form a comprehensive system for the production of granular organic fertilizer. Whether for small-scale cooperatives or large-scale manufacturing enterprises, the configuration of these core machines must be tailored to specific production capacity requirements to ensure the output of qualified, high-quality granular organic fertilizer—thereby contributing to the green and sustainable development of agriculture.v
